Playing the long game, time and patience
When I first decided I wanted to become a licensed real estate agent in Jamaica, the dream felt bigger than my wallet. I knew I had to save every dollar, so I started working at a pharmacy. The pay wasn’t much, but it was steady, and I learned discipline from those long shifts behind the counter.
Still, the bills didn’t stop coming. Rent had to be paid, food had to be bought, and life kept moving. To push my savings further, I took a second path — working as a chef at Pizza Hut. The kitchen was hot, the pace was fast, and the hours were long, but every paycheck reminded me why I was doing it.
Balancing rent and daily expenses while trying to save wasn’t easy. Some weeks, it felt like I was just breaking even. But I kept reminding myself: this sacrifice was temporary, and the reward would be lasting. Slowly, the savings grew. Each deposit into my account was proof that I was inching closer to my goal.
Looking back, those jobs weren’t just about money. They taught me resilience, patience, and the value of hard work. Without those nights in the kitchen and days at the pharmacy, I wouldn’t have had the foundation to chase my dream of becoming a real estate agent.
